Alarm.com Launches Independent Living Solution McLean, Va., January 24, 2007 — Alarm.com, a leading provider of wireless, Web-enabled interactive security and monitoring system technology, today announced the launch of its Independent Living solution, which enables family members and care providers to remotely monitor the safety and well-being of elderly or disabled individuals who live alone. In addition to traditional security system functionality, Alarm.com provides always-on sensor activity monitoring through the Web, allowing users to log in from any Web-enabled computer or handheld device to see the real-time status of door, window, cabinet or motion sensors installed at the property. Users also can receive voice, e-mail and text message alerts if activity is reported by certain sensors during times when it may indicate a serious problem, like the front door opening in the middle of the night. A key component of the Independent Living solution is Alarm.com's patented "Up & About" Inactivity Monitoring feature, which alerts users when the entire system, a specific sensor, or a set of sensors has not reported activity for a designated period of time, indicating the resident might be in trouble and in need of assistance. This Alarm.com feature has already been a life-saver for the grandmother of Alarm.com customer Michael Kotara in California. "When the motion sensor in the bathroom at my grandmother's house did not report activity for more than half a day, I called my mom, who drove over to her home to check on her," said Michael. "It turned out she was having kidney trouble she did not want to tell us about and had to be admitted to the hospital. Thanks to our early detection of her problem using Alarm.com, my grandmother was able to come home after only a few days and is doing well now." Alarm.com also enables a resident to proactively request assistance by pressing a button on a wireless panic sensor. Panic sensors can be installed near potentially dangerous areas like bathtubs and showers, or used as portable devices worn on the wrist or on a necklace, and allow a resident to generate immediate alerts to a list of contacts and (optionally) a central monitoring station in the event of an emergency. Alarm.com's Independent Living solution is not only ideal for ensuring the safety of those individuals who are more susceptible to personal emergencies – it can also provide a vital safety net for even the healthiest of independent residents in the event of an unexpected accident like a slip in the shower or a fall down stairs. "Alarm.com's Independent Living solution is unique in its ability to alert friends, family members and professional care providers not only when someone pushes a panic button, but also when the system detects an anomaly in the individual's normal behavior pattern that could represent a serious problem," said Mary Knebel, Vice President of Business Development at Alarm.com. "Now, individuals who live alone can have peace of mind knowing their safety is being monitored, without having to sacrifice their privacy to video cameras or constant in-home care." Alarm.com's Independent Living solution is built on GE Security's life safety and security hardware platform and is already in use by individuals and continuous care providers throughout the United States.
