From Stone Age to Rock Solid Security
|
When Alarm.com got started in 2000, security systems were still stuck in the Stone
Age compared with other consumer technologies. While most of us were already carrying
cell phones and using the Internet to book flights online, alarm systems hadn’t
changed much in 20 years. Alarm.com saw the opportunity to take advantage of wireless,
web and mobile technologies in order to build a far more advanced home and business
security system. We knew that it didn’t have to cost a fortune, and that our
systems could be both affordable for everyone and much more convenient.
We set out to build a
platform based on GSM wireless technology that provides solid security:
it can’t be disabled by cutting your phone line or Internet cable, and works
for 24+ hours after a power failure. In 2003 we were the first company to launch
a secure, all-digital wireless alarm system with novel features like always-on activity reporting and a web-based control panel.
